Cheque Presentation by Haslar Masonic Lodge

The Haslar Heritage Group are pleased to announce that Malcolm Smith Grand Master of Haslar Masonic Lodge of Gosport has recently presented a Cheque for £1250 to the Heritage Group. In receiving the cheque Eric Birbeck thanked the Haslar lodge for the cheque and assured the lodge that the funds will be used to replace the ‘T’  hearing loop and amplification system that was removed from St Luke’s by the MoD on the closure of Haslar in 2008. The Loop and amplification when installed will assist all who attend St Luke’s for both services, lectures and talks.

The history of the Haslar lodge is that it was founded in the early 1950’s by Sir Cecil Wakeley, 1st Baronet KBE CB (5 May 1892- 5 June 1979) who was a surgeon who served in the Royal Naval Medical Service afloat and at Haslar. The Haslar lodge had many Haslar staff as members of the lodge.
