Heritage Centre
Haslar Developments Ltd has given us one of the 18th Century hospital buildings to become our new Heritage Centre.
Originally built as the patients’ baggage store (sailors had their hammocks, clothing and other kit taken off them before admission for hygiene purposes), it is adjacent to the Royal Navy Submarine Museum car park.
The intention is to house a display about the hospital, together with a museum of naval medicine, to add to Gosport’s historic naval visitor attractions. Information boards around the site will inform visitors of the heritage as they admire the impressive buildings.
The developer has yet to provide the utilities and other services to the building which will allow us to start work in earnest, meanwhile the heritage centre represents our major fund-raising effort.
